How to breed petz like mice... timeforwarding and more.
The methods described here are the ones that I use for selective breeding projects in Petz 3 when I don't have all month. Use at your own risk --- I'm in front of my own computer screen, not yours, and I can't baby-sit you! I strongly suggest making regular backups of any petz that you care about.
Also, note that having your favorite petz have a litter and watching the babies grow up is fun because you get to watch the process, play with the infants, and take a billion pictures for your web page. In a PKC or DKC dogz' pedigree, quantity cannot replace quality, and there is no time-forwarding in the show ring. I use these methods when working on a tricky selective breeding project that I want to finish quickly or when breeding "litterz" in Petz 3 --- since multiple births are not possible, it usually takes four times as long.
Time-forwarding: This is the process of tricking the Petz program into thinking that several days have passed instead of just one. Start by closing other programs (the web browser is usually OK with it, but other software might get confused) and double-clicking on the system clock at the bottom right corner of your screen. Change the date to about two weeks ago. Make sure that your "Adopted Petz" folder contains only the two petz you plan to breed and launch the program. After they're expecting, close the program, advance the date on the system clock by one day, and start the program again. Continue moving forward in this fashion until the babiez have separated from their mother. Then I usually start the entire process over before I let the petz breed again. The key is to never ever set the date to a time earlier than the last time the program was launched if you have a pregnant petz or a mother with babies - they'll get stuck!
Additional notes:
Even more control over petz: The Slider Brain I found this at Carolyn's Creations. There are instructions there about installing it. It's a crude little controller, probably used by the programmers, that lets you manipulate the basic variables that make up your petz. WARNING: You could really mess things up! Most of the variables are quite self-explanitory, so don't do anything stupid!
