Cathy's Writing

Welcome to my writing page. Here you'll find some pieces I've written for the Internet and updates on current projects.

NOTE: SUBPAGES ARE STILL IN THE OLD TEMPLATE - I HOPE TO CORRECT THIS ASAP

Current Project(s)

I'm doing a lot of writing for school, but none of it is creative... lots of papers. (For my own amusement, I may tally up the total number of pages at the end of the semester.) I wasn't fast enough and/or my karma wasn't good enough to get the creative writing class I wanted; I've heard that it always fills up fast...

Things I Have Written
Awards & Publication

Fiction

A lot of the writing that I'm happiest with has been for online story-format roleplaying games. My characters and their greatest life moments are listed here.

A Legacy of Embers - fantasy flash fiction, 2002.

The Unicorn - this was originally the start of a NaNoWriMo novel. The unicorn was completely insane by the end of it... I've never gone back to edit it.

Journalism 101 - fantasy/humor short story, either 2002 or 2003... the more I look back at this, the more I think it has something to do with the way I feel about cows. (PETA, please don't flame me!)

Ranting/Babbling/Who Knows?
(Written for the web)

May 2003 - Woodworks, Elfwood's ezine, (http://www.woodworksezine.com/) published my essay on women in art ("Fantasy's Buxom Babes," started at GHP in 2002 and revised this month) as a feature article. :) There is a lot that I could add to this now that I've had classes covering both costume design history and art history...

American Idol rant. Of course you must read this. Then you call a toll-free number and vote for your favorite paragraph. Each episode, the paragraph with the fewest votes will be edited out.

June 2003 - Eulogy for Unusual Pets. Poem-prose. Differs in tone from everything else here. Written one year after my pet iguana's death.

December 2002 - The Peeved Pedant on Punctuation - "Punctuation is not decoration to slap on words whenever the fancy strikes you." Grrrr! :D

A review of Left Behind, the popular Christian novel, from the point of view of a dissenting Christian.

Computer Games

November 2003 - Everything that I know about how to make the a-life game Babyz run under Windows XP. I spent a couple of hours or more helping Sharon with this and I thought that I'd add my findings to the collective knowledge of the Internet.

My writing related to the computer game Petz can be found in the writing section at Magnoliapetz.com.
