Showdog.com Percents

Since each dog trait is represented as a number, many players have found it useful to use a percentage score to compare dogs on Showdog.com.

Remember, these percentages are only used by players to compare one dog to another and are not official measurements of a dog's quality. This is not the system used by the judging scripts! The dog that has the highest percentage by this calculation will not always be the winner! The judging scripts on Showdog.com take into account which handler you are using, what condition the dog is in, how much it has been exercised, groomed, and trained, and a variety of other factors. (No one knows what all of those factors are --- and the game wouldn't be as much fun if we did.)

Two well-known websites, Morningstar and

I have instructions below for calculating both percentages for one of your Showdog dogs without using a website.

How to calculate a dog's % by hand:

Expanded instructions on how to use this coming soon. this is not the only way to calculate a dog's SOP, it's just the method that I thought would make the most sense when explained on a website. :)

Using the chart below, match the colors to your dog's page on Showdog and write the number of points in the box beside each trait.

If you want a version of the chart that will print out onto a single page, click here. You can use the table below for reference if you are doing the math on a scratch piece of paper.

Write points from the chart here: Now look up the breed scale of points for your dog and write it in these boxes: Now multiply your dog's points by the breed SOP number (just multiply each row):
