Chase the Rat!
June 2000
- 2001
Chase-chase, the White Terror,
was incredibly hyperactive. She was also obsessed with grooming
peoples' hands, and gave even total strangers a complete licking.
She prefered rough and tumble play, pouncing on her cagemates
constantly...

Baby Panda grabs the tail of her "Auntie Chase."

Albino rats are very unphotogenic due to
the whole "glowing red eyes like a demon from heck"
that you get from the flash.
Besides, Chase doesn't like the flash!

Ahhhh! Scary rat!

Isn't this a great shot? I pointed the digital
camera at the rat on my shoulder.
Here you can also see (to the right) Chase's
tumor. It was surgically removed, but returned, and the combination
of returned tumor, an eye infection, and a stroke was too much
for our poor babyrat, and she became the second of our rats
(the first was Mariel) to be put to sleep. Both Mariel and Chase
were, at the time of their deaths, suffering from major neurological
damage and seizures that made it obvious that their quality
of life was too poor to hold on to them any longer. Chase-chase
is now at the big rat cage in the sky, where she can play in
the trash cans all she wants.

Chase shows Elaine who's boss.
