About .NET Framework

TIP uses Version 1.1 of the Microsoft .NET Framework, an object-oriented extension to Windows.  In Windows 2000 and XP, the .NET Framework is installed as a separate software package; in later versions, it will be built in.  For more information see http://www.gotdotnet.com.

TIP Data File Formats

TIP uses two types of data files, identified by their extensions:

.tip-d              TIP job description

.tip-v              TIP job evaluation

Both of these are written in XML (Extended Markup Language) and, if necessary, can be edited with Notepad or a similar editor.  You should never have to do this, but it is a technique worth remembering if you damage a file in some way and want to salvage it.

TIP Library Files

The TIP job description library consists of ordinary .tip-d files which happen to be stored in the Library folder directly under the folder where TIP.EXE resides.  You can create more job descriptions at any time and store them there.  We recommend that these files be marked read-only so that users will not modify them accidentally.
