How to Print from TIP

Printing Basics

TIP can print any job description or employee evaluation, whether or not it is complete. Simply choose File, Print or hit Ctrl+P. The familiar Windows print menu will pop up:

Make any choices that you need to, or just click OK.

Alternatively, choose Print Preview to see what will be printed. This menu works much the same way as in other Windows software. You'll see something like this:

Here's what the controls do:

Note that when the preview window is on the screen, you can't do anything else. It is just like a message box - it demands your attention and the rest of TIP is suspended.

Finally, just like your word processor, TIP has a Page Setup menu:

The normal margins are 1 inch on each side on letter-size (11-inch) paper. If you want to experiment with changing margins, please preview your printouts, because although TIP will do its best, everything may not fit in the amount of space that you provide.

Notes about printing employee evaluations

When you print an employee evaluation, confidential comments are of course not included.

Further, any section of the job description whose name begins with "Skills" or "Hiring," and which does not have a score, is not printed because it is assumed to be a set of hiring criteria.

Each printed employee evaluation includes an area for the employee, the evaluator, and an administrative reviewer to sign. You will be asked whether to print this on a separate page so that it cannot be split across a page break. If you say yes, the employee's name is repeated at the top of the signature page so that signature pages cannot get attached to the wrong documents.

Replacing the TIP logo with your company's logo

The TIP logo (trademark) appears at the upper right of every page printed. If you want to replace this with your company's logo, proceed as follows.

Find the folder, under Program Files, where TIP.exe resides. In it is a file named tiplogo.bmp. Make a file of the same type (not necessarily the same size) with your logo in it, named logo.bmp, and put it in the same folder. It will take precedence over the TIP logo.
