What is TIP?

TIP stands for Technology Improving Performance.  TIP is a software package for describing jobs and evaluating employees.

The key ideas behind TIP are these:

  • A job description is a file that is divided into sections and subsections (to define the parts of the job and the relative importance of each).
  • An employee evaluation consists of a job description with more information added (to identify the employee and give a rating on each component of the job).

With TIP you can create descriptions for your employees’ jobs.  TIP comes with a library of ready-made descriptions that you can easily adapt to your needs, but if you need to create one from scratch, it’s easy to do so.

Then, when it comes time to evaluate an employee’s performance, TIP helps you take that person’s job description and add the appropriate information.  TIP guides you through the process of carrying out an evaluation and setting goals for the coming year.

You can also add notes to an employee evaluation at any time, then come back to them at evaluation time.

Best of all, TIP can exchange data with other programs.  Any TIP document can be exported to RTF (Rich Text Format) so that any major word processor can edit and print it.  Going the other way, it is easy to paste information from other software into TIP using the Windows clipboard in the usual way.

TIP is on the cutting edge of computer technology.  It uses Microsoft’s .NET Framework to achieve a higher level of reliability and compactness than earlier Windows software.  Most noticeable about .NET is the fact that when things go wrong, even if the programmer didn’t foresee them, the error messages are very explicit.  Thus, if you ever have to contact the TIP support team, you will have the information needed to identify and solve the problem.
